Aimed at those with previous jazz piano experience, this intensive two-day workshop provides an opportunity to brush up on improvisational skills at an advanced level. You should already have some jazz repertoire and a working knowledge of chord symbols. Gigging pianists are welcomed...
Some of the more advanced techniques from Exploring Jazz Piano Vol 2 will be covered in depth and allowance will be made for individual students' preferences and needs. Topics covered will include: chord voicings, comping, improvisation techniques, advanced jazz theory and harmony, altered and pentatonic scales, playing with a rhythm section, etc...
A professional rhythm section (bass and drums) is provided for students to play with on the Sunday afternoon.

This popular annual course, now in its twelth year, offers 5 days of intensive jazz piano tuition PLUS a unique opportunity to record a track in THE PREMISES recording studio with a professional bassist and drummer provided. Places are limited to a maximum of 18 pianists, so early enrolment is advised.Topics covered include: Jazz harmony, chord voicings, blues, bebop, modal jazz, Latin/Brazilian jazz, improvisation techniques, accompanying, playing with a rhythm section. Tutors are:

John Crawford (Latin & Brazilian jazz).This year the course will be streamed to cater for students of differing levels of ability and experience. You will be placed in one of two groups on the first day. When not being taught by one of the above tutors, practise facilities will be available.

For ALL instruments. Designed to give competent players with little or no experience of jazz the opportunity to play with other musicians and develop their improvisational skills. Help given with improvisation, chords, etc...Bass players, drummers, and all brass or reeds players especially welcome! For the final sessions a professional rhythm section is provided for students to play with.
Course materials provided include the Tim Richards Trio Educational Resource Pack, based on the tunes contained on the The Other Side TRIO CD, an 85-page booklet with parts for all instruments, suggestions for improvisation, keyboard voicings, basslines, drum patterns, etc...
The education pack is NOT available separately from the CD.
